About The President
Michael Thomas has a wide variety of financial, budgetary, managerial and systems improvement experience.
Michael is a degreed Accountant with over twenty–two (22) years of experience in financial management and general business management.
Michael started his career as an auditor for the State of Mississippi specializing in audits of school systems. After six (6) years, he started working for a small school system as a School Business Administrator. The systems at the time had a deficit of approximately $500,000 with a budget of $6 million. In less than two years through recommendations and strategies Michael put in place, the system had built a $240,000.00 reserve/savings. The system was progressing towards its goal of $500,000 surplus when Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, MS, hired Michael as Budget Director. Jackson Public Schools is the state’s largest school system and only urban school system.
Since 1994, Michael has served in various capacities at Jackson Public Schools – Budget Director, Internal Auditor, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer and currently Deputy Superintendent for Operations. Currently serving as Deputy Superintendent for Operations, Michael supervises the following functions: Facilities, Finance, Food Services, Graphic Arts (Print Shop), Human Resources, Information Technology Services, Risk Management, Security, and Transportation.
In his capacity as Deputy Superintendent for Operations, Michael has worked since August 2002 to develop a business model for the operational of school systems. He believes he has captured the precise strategies and methodologies to improve any system/organization.
